Section Updates

(by Ken Hager, Section Chief)

Gentlemen!

I hope everyone from our Section had a great Easter at home or away, with your families, extended families, friends, and who ever else makes your holidays more enjoyable.

It has been little over five weeks since our March COC, and I wanted to drop some reminders to you all.

Final quotas are in for Conclave. Potomac is getting everything put into motion. Make sure to start collecting your Conclave fees, as bills will soon start coming in. Cost is $30 per participant.

Many lodges asked for special requests from their fellow lodge chiefs, such as providing judges, sticking to deadlines, etc… Be sure to help out the other lodges in the Section for these items, because eventually the rotation will move back around to you! I know that Monaken asked for 1 youth and 1 adult judge for the Ceremony Comp. Kuski needs newsletters (3), and Nachy needs articles for the guidebook. If you have any other early requests post them on the web site, let me know, or e-mail the whole COC!

If you would like to post updates to the COC, be sure to mail them to our Section Web Adviser, Dan Wright, so they can be placed on-line on our web page www.ne4b.org or let me know and I’ll make sure they get to him. Why, just the other night I asked him to post a letter up about OAOA, and it was up in minutes, no joke! Be sure to check our section web site often for important updates.

Incorporating our theme "Let the Arrow Point the Way" into our Conclave and the cracker-barrel is going to be very important, but with many pay-offs for the participants. Monaken and Enda, I’m sure, have been working tediously to make some leeway into this subject. As soon as they have something to share, they will let us know. Some lodges committed to other responsibilities surrounding the theme, including Wagion whom should be making the ‘Arrow signs.’

Soon, the training cells and workshops will be blocked into the time slots allotted for them. Some recent complications pressed down by the National OA committee have added some training cells to our schedule. As soon as Jon, as well as the other section officers and advise/ors work this out, your lodge will be notified about when your trainers will be training. Additionally, be sure, if you haven’t yet, to get the names of those trainers to Jon!

Further preparations are being made for NOAC, as our national event draws closer everyday! As you asked, we are checking now of any places around the campus we can get ribs!

The next Informer due date is May 7th. Never too earlier to get those to OJ!

I had the great opportunity to represent our section on staff during the past National Leadership Seminar (NLS) on Mar 31-April 2 at Camp Alpine, NJ. I was really excited to see members from Enda, Nachy, and Kuski at this important training. The NLS went well, and I had the chance to run the Situational Leadership Game. I’m glad to see our section trying to fulfil our Section 10% Improvement Plan I laid out back in December.

As each of our lodges’ holds our Spring Thaws, work weekends, or other events in the upcoming months, don’t forget to spend some time getting prepared for Conclave. Before we know it, we’ll be back at Potomac with 300 Arrowmen ready for the time of their lives!

Good luck!
Yours in WWW,

Kenneth Hager

OA Ocean Adventure in 2007

ATTENTION ARROWMEN INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN OA OCEAN ADVENTURE IN 2007!

OAOA is the hottest OA High Adventure Program out there. In it's first two summers, OAOA has been full to capacity, providing Arrowmen with a unique opportunity to not only gain first-class PADI SCUBA Certification, but to also work with Government Agencies, and the Florida Sea Base to perform acts of service to an undersea wilderness.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the program, in 2007 prefence for acceptance to the program will be given to Arrowmen who have completed either the OA Wilderness Voyage at Northern Tier, the OA Trail Crew at Philmont, or BOTH. This will help to ensure that Arrowmen pursuing the OA High Adventure Triple Crown will have the opportunity to do so.

If you were turned away from OAOA for this upcoming summer, and are hoping to get on the list for the summer of 2007, you are strongly encouraged to visit http://adventure.oa-bsa.org/ and apply to participate in the OA Voyage or Trail Crew for the summer of 2006. Act quickly however, as these programs are near capacity for participant registrations as well.

Wagion Lodge Status Update

(by Tom Price, Wagion Lodge Chief)

Well, who would have thought that 85 years after Wagion would still be here? So many of the other lodges that we have shared conclaves with in the past are no longer here and that’s sad but we like to look on the bright side and celebrate our 85th year of cheerful service. The year starts with our fellowship banquet on the 25th of February and continues into our April, June, August and October weekends. We have patches, parties and people from years past coming out to celebrate with the 2005 Quality lodge, from a great section. We are gearing up for our show at conclave and hope to see the section there for another year of Haken Walleck!

Section NE-4B Gathering at NOAC

by Kenneth Hager, Section Chief

Traditionally at NOAC, our Section holds a “gathering” in which contingent members for our section get together for some fun and fellowship of their own. It is an excellent opportunity to meet up with your friends from across the section, trade some patches, get caught up on how your lodge has rocked NOAC so far, and of course time to sign the lodge songs.

This past summer, we held the first ever Section Gathering at the National Scout Jamboree. When some of the other sections from around our region heard about how we packed several hundred of our brothers into the dinning tent at sub-camp 4, they were extremely jealous they had not thought of such an event. I am hoping for another reaction of the same sort as our Section shows its pride at NOAC.

Currently, I am looking at holding the Section Gathering on Monday night immediately following the History/Recognition Show. All who come to this event will be able to indulge on pizza, pop, and other great snacks. Also, everyone in attendance will receive a packet updating them on what 4B has been up to at the Conference. The event should start late in the evening and last as long as our brothers want to stay up. In case of changes, your contingent leader will be kept posted on where the event will take place and if any other changes are made.

I am serving on Shows staff at NOAC and will be more than happy to help your contingent get situated at NOAC. Best of luck, and I hope to see you in Michigan!

Ah'Tic Lodge Status Update

Ah'Tic Lodge has been very active since the December Section CoC. Once again we have turned our charter in on time, and qualified for National Quality Lodge. We held our winter fellowship weekend on January sixth through the eighth at Camp Mountain Run. On Friday the sixth we held an LLD, and a cracker barrel to kick of the fun. Saturday we were entertained with black powder and trapping demonstrations. That day we also got to squeeze off 20 rounds from an AR-15 assault rifle; which is currently employed by our government for the best military personnel on the planet. Our lodge continues to raise money for our new Ah’Tic winter cabin to replace the one that had been bested by a storm. So far the lodge has raised $11,000. The labor for the cabin is pure volunteer work preformed by our dedicated lodge members

Finally, we continue to fill our slots, as we prepare ourselves for an awesome conclave.
