April 10 COC

LOCATION: Penn's Woods Council Service Center, Ebensburg. BEGINS: 0900

One of the topics brought up at the last COC was Cub Scouting. It was put out that all Lodges in our Section should have chosen a Lodge Cub Scout Committee Chairman and actually established the committee by the Spring COC. If at all possible, the Lodge Cub Scout Chairmen should attend the COC. I will provide materials and info that will help them with their committees.

Also, Lodges should be sure that they have their individual parts close to completion. Lodge Chiefs, be prepared to give an update at the COC. Here are the training cells that each lodge is responsible for

COC On April 10, 2010

Brothers:

The next COC will be on April 10 at Seven Mountains (exact
time/location TBD). This is a change of what we had
originally planned on, so please note this new date.

To each Lodge: We will be taking pictures for the guidebook at the
COC, so you must have everyone present. Also, each Lodge (this falls
on the officers) needs to electronically send me a copy of your Lodge
history no later than Wednesday, April 7. We are beginning to
take requests from Lodges for any program or training materials that
they will need for the Conclave. Please send those requests to me. We
will be getting plaques made up for events. For your Lodge
registrations, we need participant names, whether they are a youth or
adult, the participant's OA honor, and any major health/food concerns
that we should be aware of. All Lodges need an approximate count of
participants at the COC. You will, of course, be able to add
participants leading up to Conclave, but your approximate count is
necessary to begin the final planning stages.

Thanks for your cooperation and support as we get ready to celebrate
100 years of Scouting at the 2010 Section NE-4B Conclave. Look for a
more formal update in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can
contact me at (717) 994-0647 or joncherry@gmail.com for any questions
that you have.

Chiefly Thoughts...

Hey Everyone!!

Hope everyone is doing well as we jump into the winter months!! I know the Section Staff has been pretty busy, getting ready for the Section Officers'
Seminar coming up as well as the November CoC. On that note, we have a few points of business to attend to:

1. Everyone needs to let Allen, or Adam Kostik know ASAP how many you have from your lodge attending the Nov. CoC. It's at Twin Echo in Ligonier. We'll be there Friday Night (for patch trading, fun and
fellowship!!) and the meeting itself will start at 8AM on Saturday.
Remember: Lodge Chief's, Advisers, and Conclave Chairmen should be attending. This CoC is going to be program based, so come with training and program ideas!! We should be done no later than 2pm. When you RSVP, let us know if you're coming Friday night or Saturday morning. Cost for food is $5.

2. Adam is putting together our first Informer for the year (for those who don't know, that's the Section Newsletter). He sent out an email earlier this week about needing articles. Lodge Chiefs: this means you!! Also, Section Chairmen should send him something too. (Good work Ted getting yours in already!!). This is the Informer that we're taking to the SOS, so let's make it a good one!!

3. The Section Fleeces have been ordered (make sure you thank Cletus and the Penn's Woods Council for helping us with this!!) Make sure, if you ordered one, that you have your $35 at the CoC, so we can give it to you :)

If anyone needs anything, please let us know!! We live to serve :) Have a safe and happy Halloween weekend!!

Yours in Brotherhood,

Allen, Craig, and Adam

Cub Scout Relations!!

Fellow Arrowmen,

Hello! My name is Teddy Kostich, and I am your current Section NE-4B Cub Scout Relations Chairman. The purpose of the Cub Scout Relations Committee is to promote Boy Scouting to Cub Scouts to show them that we can have fun and to encourage them to join a troop after they cross over. Also, we can raise awareness of the OA through the Cub activities, and in doing so, encourage more Scouts to meet the requirements for membership into our Order, and ultimately increase the size of the Brotherhood. For the Council of Chiefs on November 15th, I am asking that each Lodge be ready to discuss their Cub Scout program, such as what you do, what works best for you, etc., and to have ready any ideas or thoughts that you would like to talk about. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Summer Update from the chief.

Hey Guys!

Just wanted to drop everyone a note and see how they were doing! Hope your summers are going well and that everyone is getting pumped for the up and coming year. There's a lot on the calendar for this fall and winter, as well as TONS of Conclave Prep needed to help make sure NE4B is continuing the legacy of AMAZING Conclaves!! We've got a lot of new ideas on the table already for the 2009 Conclave at Heritage. Don't forget to mark your calendars with the dates Bill emailed out last week. Let's make sure our Section is well represented at the NLS and NLATS this fall, and that we're keeping an active face in the Region!! It's these trainings that help our lodges run as smooth as they do!

Also: We're looking for a lot of talent to help fill some committee positions on the CoC. From training, The Informer, and our website, to Cub Scouts and Camp Promo, there's something for everyone! We're also really looking forward to all our Lodge Chiefs will take an active role in all these things for the next year, so let's get rolling now!!

Hope your summers have been excited and full of fun!! See you soon!

Allen, Craig, and Adam

for my Section Assistance Team. It is with a variety of opinions and
viewpoints that new ideas are made which is why I would like to build
a team with brothers from multiple lodges across the section. If you
are interested or you know someone in your lodge who would be
interested, please contact me at s.p.hastings@iup.edu. Thank you.

Chiefly Speaking

(by Tom Price, Section Chief)

Brothers,

The leaves are changing and the chill is in the breeze, but the NE-4B is moving right along. I, along with Ken Hager, current Northeast Region Chief and past NE-4B chief, staffed the Fall NLS at Camp Alpine in New Jersey. It was a great time with arrowmen from across the region in attendence. Wagion, Ah'Tic and Ahtuhquog all had youth and adults attending NLS and NLATS. This spring, Camp Guyasta will be the host to the Spring NLS. Since it will be in our section and in Enda's Backyard, I think it would be wise to send any members who need to be trained on the region level. It is a great experience and will help your lodge's newer and up and coming members more about leadership, teamwork and the order itself.

From Tom Price, Section Chief:

Brothers and Chiefs,

Guys, I am really happy with how things went this past weekend. The meeting was just what I think we needed to kick Conclave 2008 into gear. I was personally impressed with all the suggestions and ideas about the theme "Lenni Lonopoly". Now that we have a theme we can work on PROGRAM, the most important part of and why we all attend conclave.

Section Election Results

The special election for the new Section Chief was held on January 13th at the Penns Woods Council office. All lodges were represented as the meeting began at 10:00 AM. After two rounds of voting and many questions the new Section Chief Christian Horn was elected into office. Due to the fact that Christian was the Section Vice Chief, we then had to have another election to replace Christian. As with the Section Chief election, we had two rounds of voting and questioning to elect the new Section Vice Chief Jon Cherry of Monaken Lodge.

Section Gathering

The NE-4B section gathering will be held at Camp Seph Mack during September 8th and 9th. For information on attending, please see your Lodge Chief.

Directions to camp Seph Mack may be found on the Penn's Woods Council website.

All you really need to know is that it is the FIRST turn-off after Rt422
returns to 2 lane to the east of Indiana.

Go to the end of the 4 lane Rt422 east of Indiana, PA. Just 1000 ft past the
end there is a 4 way intersection with an ice cream stand in one of the
corners. Turn onto the road next to the ice cream stand and follow the signs
to the scout camp (2 miles).

About a half mile back there is a 3 way intersection, keep to the right
where the bulk of the traffic goes.

As the road nears the end, there is a church on your right and the road
merges and runs out to the boat docks. About 500 ft beyond the church, there
is a dirt road to the right. That is the entrance to Seph Mack. Follow the
road thru the gateway, across the breast of the dam and bear right at the
totem pole to the dining hall.

Impotant Info On March COC -- March 17-18

(from Ken Hager, Section Chief)

Last month I attended the National Planning Conference for the OA in Texas. I have a lot of info for all of you from that meeting. Also last week, we held a Section Officers meeting in Mt. Pleasant where the section officers and advisers meet to talk about the next COC along with other items. This is to inform you of all these events.
